ENVERGA CALAUAG MARKS ITS FOUNDING ANNIVERSARY IN OCTOBER
There is no stopping Manuel S. Enverga University Foundation Inc., (MSEUFI)- Calauag campus from celebrating its first anniversary with the theme: Enverga- Calauag, Moving Forward’, Oct. 9-13.
Amidst the worldwide health crisis, the foundation celebration commenced through a live stream thanksgiving mass officiated by the University chaplain from the main campus Fr. Ramilo V. Esplana emphasizing in his homily that in God nothing is impossible.
“The reason why we are celebrating today is because God has made the founder’s seeds grow through the establishment of this academic institution – instruction, research and community service,” he said.
An online short opening program at the University Library hosted by Rey Marco Casino followed with at least 15 guests, government officials from the Municipality of Calauag, Department of Education (DepEd), including faculty, staff and administrators in attendance. MSEUFI-Calauag principal/administrator Anicia P. Lorica welcomed the participants despite the hard times education in the world is confronting now.
“There are a lot of challenges but we have to be creative to deliver a resilient, flexible, quality education in the new normal,” she said.
In his message, internal-auditor and project-in-charge Dario R. Opistan challenged the parents and students.
“Let us trust ourselves, in our abilities and in what we have. Let’s be strong to strive to fulfill our dreams and not to lose hope. Let’s work for it with faith and believe that we can make it,” he said.
“If this is our perspective, I am pretty sure, we can reach our destination just like a man who is driving in a dark road,” he added.
On behalf of Chairman/CEO Wilfrido L. Enverga and President/COO Madame Naila Enverga-Leveriza, the four vice presidents of the MSEUF system shared their individual messages via Zoom.
In her speech, VP for Academics and Research Dr. Benilda N. Villenas stated that Calauag is a fertile ground for the fifth Enverga affiliate school that is now serving a student population.
“We will continue to deliver excellent, responsive, and relevant education to our clienteles even as we continue to do research and extension that will help improve the quality of life of our immediate environment,” she said.
VP for Administration Evelyn S. Abeja expounded on the MSEUF history and how the founder Dr. Manuel S. Enverga envisioned Quezonians longing for quality tertiary education to attain their dreams without going to Manila.
“Through the years, the commitment to serve God and country through instruction, research and community service has never changed.
Together with MSEUF Calauag, we will march towards becoming globally competitive by 2030,” she said. VP External Relations Celso D. Jaballa congratulated the MSEUFI-Calauag Family for its effort and dedication to link up with and give back to the community through its community extension programs. “While many are still worrying about the turnout of events due to the dreaded COVID-19 pandemic, let us not be affected but instead keep our family community strong to defy the odds,” he said. VP Finance Cesar A. Wong also congratulated and thanked the MSEUF-Calauag staff.
“Thank you for the effort in operating the school in these difficult times,” he said. The corporate planning and development officer of MSEUF Amelia E. de los Reyes also shared the long range plans and projects for Calauag campus as envisioned by the University president Madam Naila E. Leveriza.
Honorable Rosalina O. Visorde, municipal mayor of Calauag and MSEUF alumna also thanked the management of the University for choosing the town in the fourth district of Quezon to establish its fifth affiliate school.
“I am confident that through MSEUF Calauag, many responsible citizens and good leaders will be nurtured and developed, “she said. Meanwhile, the celebration featured Online Academic and ‘Fundemic’ Contests open to all students enrolled in the university.
The contests required participation of families in five different categories namely: Pagsulat ng Tula, Pagsulat ng Sanaysay, Parent and Child Singing Contest, Solo Tiktok Dance Contest, and Creative Photo Contest. Adjudged first place in Pagsulat ng Tula was Shane Anjelique M. Indenible, Grade 11-B (STEM) while Ryan A. Montebon, Grade 11-B won first place in Pagsulat ng Sanaysay. Precious D. Curioso, Grade 11-B and Martin John Labaro placed first and second, in the Parent and Child Singing Contest, respectively. In Solo Tiktok Dance Contest, the winners were Crayzel Kate R. Mascardo, Grade 11 (ABM), first place; Kianne Ashley A. Solleza, Grade 11 (HUMSS), second place; and Cristine Joy D. Pitero, Grade 11- C (STEM), third place. In Creative Photo Contest with the theme: “Fam-Gimik sa Quarantine”, the winners were: Angelique N. Zarcilla, Grade 11 (HUMMS), first place; Juliana Briana O. Alexa, Grade 11 (ABM), second place; and Denice Anne V. Verdad, third place.
The contest was held on October 9, 2020 but the proclamation of winners was held noon time on Oct. 10, via FB Live.
All winners received Tuition Discount Certificates of one thousand, seven hundred and five hundred pesos for the first, second and third places, respectively. Culminating celebration on Oct. 13 was the signing of the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) for the Community Extension Services (CES) of MSEUFI-Calauag, the project launching, and ceremonial tree planting. The CES dubbed as Project AGAP (Agricyling at Gawaing Pangkapaligiran) is a tripartite project of MSEUFI-Calauag, St. Peter the Apostle Parish, and Barangay Sta. Maria Council for the environment clean-up, beautification, maintenance and promotion of the Grotto of the Virgin Mary, the Our Lady of Fatima installed at the hilltop donated by the Jorvina Family, and situated in Barangay Sta. Maria along the Maharlika Highway, about 100 meters away from the University.
Coinciding with the Feast of Our Lady of Fatima, a Holy Mass was held at the foot of the hill with Rev. Fr. Edison Huballa, celebrant, with members of the Catholic Women’s League (CWL) headed by its president Sis. Luz D. Intoy, the Barangay Council headed by Chairman Leopoldo Llamansarez, and the MSEUFI-Calauag Community headed by Vice President for External Relations Celso D. Jaballa with Principal/Administrator Anicia P. Lorica, Internal Auditor/Project-in-Charge Dario O. Opistan, Milagrosa S. Lawas, director Community Relations Department, and IL Mc Coulie del Mundo from the main campus. Following the mass were the flower offering at the Grotto with at least 200 steps (stairs) and the MOA signing with VPER Jaballa representing MSEUFI-Calauag, Fr. Huballa representing St. Peter the Apostle Parish, and Chairman Llamansarez representing Barangay Sta. Maria. Jaballa, Opistan, Fr. Huballa, Chairman Llamansarez led the tree planting activity at the foot of the hill. Project AGAP is also in collaboration with the MSEUF Alumni Association Calauag Chapter headed by its president Angela Clarissa T. Rosas and the CWL of Calauag.
The week-long celebration mas made possible through the initiative of the newly hired faculty and employees as members of the working committees namely Christian R. Mendoza, Fulgencio Evener Dela Rama, Jane O. Pacis, John Paulo U. Pantinio, Elizabeth Anne A. De Rama, Deren Glenmar U. Salvatus, Sherry Anne S.Barrera, Mamelo A. Valencia, Jaime Lee S. Bongay, Patricia Baloloy, Angela Clarissa T. Rosas, Norberto B. Anir Jr., Norlyn M. Sargento, and Woody Mar A. Solleza with Lorica asuu over-all chair person. Opistan and De los Reyes served as consultants.
